Jean Tyree (Thrine) - Class Of 1948

N. Jean Thrine, 94, peacefully passed on Wednesday, December 13, 2023 at CrownPointe Senior Living Community in Lebanon, Indiana. She was surrounded by her family.

Jean was born April 16, 1929 in Crawfordsville, Indiana to the late Troy and Virginia Tyree. Her late sister, Maxine (Jack) Johnson, was her best friend. They were raised in Thorntown, Indiana.

Jean graduated from Thorntown High School in 1947. She met the love of her life, Robert “Bob” Thrine, on a school bus, and they married on December 30, 1950. Bob and Jean owned Thrine Construction, a homebuilding and remodeling business, and they had three children they loved dearly: Jane (Charlie) Taylor of Lebanon, Mike (Cindy) Thrine of Lebanon, and Kathi (Gerald) Hole of Darlington, Indiana. Bob passed away in 1983, and Jean spoke of him often and fondly for the rest of her life.

Jean worked for the Thorntown Telephone Company and was a longtime employee of The Home National Bank. She was part of Sugarette’s Home-Economics Club and Dover Neighborhood Club, and she was a member of Thorntown Christian Church and St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.

Jean loved her family with all of her heart. She spoke about her six grandchildren to anyone who would listen. She was so proud of Neil (Jocelyn) Taylor, Matt (Lindsey) Taylor, Kristen (Kyle) Clemens, Lindsey (Jon) Salisbury, Michael (Kristen) Hole, and Michaela (Kevin) O’Connor. Jean’s legacy lives on in her twelve great-grandchildren, who brought her joy and lots of laughter: Ella and Eli Taylor; Tess and Madison Taylor; Lydia and Juliette Clemens; Tucker and Graham Salisbury; Evelyn and Isabelle Hole; and Juna and Annie O’Connor. They called her “Mamaw” and will miss her so much.

Jean had a feisty, independent spirit and a remarkable memory, especially about her family’s ancestry and people’s birthdays and middle names. Jean enjoyed reading, decorating homes, and shopping with her sister. She loved good coffee, Friday dinners with her girlfriends, visiting family in Kentucky, watching her grandchildren’s sports and school events, and spending time with her children and their families.

Jean’s family and friends will gather to celebrate her life on Friday, December 15, 2023 at Strawmyer & Drury Mortuary (2400 North Lebanon Street, Lebanon). Visitation will be 11:00AM until 2:00PM, followed by services. She will be laid to rest in Oak Hill Cemetery. Memorial contributions in Jean’s memory may be made to the Boone County Mentoring Partnershi
