John Charles Whiffing

John Charles Whiffing, 66, of McKinleyville, Calif., formerly of Lebanon, passed away on March 13, 2012, at his residence.

John was born July 3, 1945, to Morris and June (Schumacher) Whiffing. He attended Washington Township schools, graduating from Thorntown High School in 1965. He enlisted in the USNR shortly after he graduated.

He married Carol Quartier on March 11, 1967, in Noblesville. He spent 18 months in Vietnam, and was honorable discharged in October of 1971.

John then returned to farming. The majority of his life was spent driving a truck across the country.

He was a huge fan of western movies, John Wayne, classic cars and his family, especially his grandchildren.

Survivors include daughter, Emily (Larry) Whiffing of Thorntown; son, John (Anna) Whiffing Jr. of Lebanon; and seven grandchildren, Johnna Whiffing, Shaley Whiffing, Tara Whiffing, Levi Franks, Ariel Stewart, Charles Whiffing and Madison Rokusek.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 42 years, Carol Whiffing; his parents; and two brothers, William Whiffing and Richard Whiffing.

Visitation will be 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 14, at Milledgeville Methodist Church. Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the church
