James D. Carter, 69, of Thorntown, IN passed peacefully at home on Sunday, October 6, 2019 surrounded by family. Jim was born August 7, 1950 in Kokomo, IN to Orville and Joanne Carter.

Jim was a 1968 graduate of Thorntown High School and attended Purdue University. He married Teresa (Williams) Carter in 1969 and just celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. A farmer all his life, he was also recently retired from the board of directors at Home National Bank. Jim enjoyed golf, friends, family and working the land. He was member of Thorntown Lions Club, Cook Lake Golf Club, and Sugar Plain Friends Church. He was happiest in quiet moments with his loving wife, and in the field, doing what he loved.

Survivors include his wife Teresa; mother Joanne Carter; siblings: Charles (Margaret) Carter of Thorntown, Dixie (Rick) Justice of Noblesville, and Rebecca Battcher of Lebanon; children: Michelle (Andrew Huehls) Michalke of Indianapolis and Sasha (Joshua) Williamson of Colfax; grandchildren: Cedric Michalke of Lebanon, Levi and Jared Michalke, both of Indianapolis, Lily and Dane Williamson, both of Colfax; one great-grandson Tucker Michalke; and several nieces and nephews.

His father, Orville Carter, preceded him in death.

A casual open house for friends and family will be held at Sugar Plain Friends Church, 8980 W SR 47, Thorntown, on Saturday, October, 19, 2019 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. The open house will be closed by a short remembrance.
