John F. Vansickle

January 14, 1942 - August 14, 2020

John F. Vansickle, age 78 of Waynetown, passed away, 2:45 PM Friday, August 14, 2020 in Franciscan Health Lafayette East Hospital, following a period of failing health.  John was born in Indianapolis, January 14, 1942 son of the late Marvin ‘Bud’ and Dessie ‘Dee’ Truax Vansickle.  He married Beverly A. Riley in Lebanon, August 25, 1962 and she survives.

John was a 1961 graduate of Thorntown High School and went to work as an insulator.  He spent his career as a Union Insulator with Union Local 18.  He and Beverly were 56 year residents of Waynetown.  Over the years John enjoyed farm equipment and classic cars and was especially proud of his ’59 Oldsmobile 98 convertible and his Chrysler 300.

John enjoyed playing Euchre, was a member of the Crawfordsville Moose Lodge and had enjoyed square dancing with his wife.  He was a humble, hardworking, friendly man who never met a stranger.  If he knew you, he had probably called you ‘Chief”.  Following retirement, John enjoyed mowing and caring for his properties.  He’d never seen a weed that ‘Round Up’ couldn’t take care of.

Surviving along with his wife Beverly are:  Two daughters; Donna (Bruce) Harrison of Crawfordsville and Dianna (Brian) Verhey of rural Waynetown.  Grandchildren; Jeremy Pruett, Dr. Kyle Harrison, ENS Katelyn Harrison, Derrick (Megan Guthery) Verhey.  Great-grandchildren: Jaden, Jalynn, Audrie and Kori Pruett, Madalynn Verhey. Sisters; Carol Ford of Thorntown, Katrina (Jerry) Whiteside of Lebanon, Theresa (David) Smith, Poland, IN, Karen Vansickle of Lebanon, Debbie Stone of Lebanon, Patsy Lang of Lebanon.  Brothers; Raymond (Cathie) Vansickle of Brownsburg and Wayne (Betty) Vansickle of Whitestown, Francis (Judy) Vansickle of California, Ed Vansickle of New Ross.  A sister-in-law Vera Vansickle of Bainbridge.  Preceding him in death were his parents, a daughter’ Shelly ‘Vera’ Pruett, brothers Pete, Charles and Kenny, a brother-in-law John Ford and sister-in-law Suzanne Vansickle  He was also preceded in death by a brother and sister who died in infancy. 

Visitation hours are 5:00 – 8:00 PM Wednesday, August 19, 2020 at Family and Friends Funeral Home of Wingate. Funeral services, 11:00 AM Thursday at the funeral home, with Pastor Dorman Winger officiating.  Interment will follow in Waynetown Masonic Cemetery.  Memorial contributions are preferred in lieu of flowers to Montgomery County Youth Services Bureau.  Guests are asked to follow the COVID-19 recommendations of the CDC and Indiana State Department of Health.  Visit us online at www.familyandfriendsfh.com to sign the guest book or share a memory
