Carlton H. Lamar

West Lafayette — Dr. Carlton H. Lamar, 71, of West Lafayette, died Tuesday, May 31, 2011, at St. Mary Healthcare Center, Lafayette.

He was born Feb. 20, 1940, in Lebanon, to the now deceased Clifford and Ruth Hine Lamar. Carlton graduated from Thorntown High School in 1958 and received his BS, MS and DVM from Purdue University.

Dr. Lamar married Karman Bracken on Aug. 16, 1964, in Dover; she survives.

He had been an associate professor of veterinary medicine at Purdue University for over 30 years when he retired.   

Dr. Lamar was a member of Federated Church of West Lafayette and sang in the choir. He was past president of The Veterinary Anatamist Organization.

He enjoyed wood carving, nature and photography.

Surviving with his wife are daughters, Kim Clevenger (husband, Dan) of Indianapolis and Kris Dunn (husband, Randy) of Plainfield. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Emily and Andrew Clevenger and Ali and Nathan Dunn.

He was preceded in death by brother, George Lamar.

Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, June 2, at Soller-Baker West Lafayette Chapel, 1184 Sagamore Parkway West, West Lafayette. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday, June 3, at Federated Church of West Lafayette, 2400 Sycamore Lane, West Lafayette, with the Rev. Gary Reif officiating. Entombment will be at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens.
