Carolyn “Sue” (Beck) Hessong, 74, of Lafayette, formerly of Boone County, passed away Saturday, Dec. 21, 2013, in her home, surrounded by her family.

Born Aug. 17, 1939, in Thorntown, she was the daughter of the now late Joseph Ray and Naomi May (Adair) Beck. Sue grew up in Boone County and was educated in the Thorntown schools.

Marrying Lloyd N. Hessong on Feb. 9, 1957, in Lebanon, she lived all of her married life in the Greater Lafayette area. Mr. Hessong survives.

Sue had worked as a secretary at Lafayette Life Insurance, then at Andover Corporation. She then went on to work at Wright Hardware in Colfax, before retiring.

She was a nanny and worked in child care services for different families in Greater Lafayette.

She was a member of Pleasant Hill Church in Thorntown, and the Greater Lafayette Kennel Club at Shadeland. She enjoyed gardening and spending time with family and friends.

In addition to her husband, Lloyd, Sue’s survivors include two sisters, Anna (Raymond) Davis of Thorntown and Marcia (Robert) Fetterhoff of Frankfort. She was preceded in death by one sister, Jerri Ann Beck.

Visitation is 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Saturday Dec. 28, at Hippensteel Funeral Home, 822 N. Ninth St., Lafayette. Memorial services will be held at 12 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with Pastor Dean Cooper and Pastor Brent James officiating. Inurnment will take place at a later date at Oak Hill Cemetery, Lebanon.
