Floyd Fairfield - Class Of 1954

— Mr. Floyd W. Fairfield, 76, of Thorntown, died Sunday, Sept. 19, 2010, at Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis.

Mr. Fairfield was born July 13, 1934, in Boone County, the son of the late Ivan and Violet (Asher) Fairfield. His mother survives and lives in Lebanon.

He graduated from Thorntown High School in 1954. He then attended Indiana Barber College and graduated in 1955.

Mr. Fairfield married Frances Bailey on March 17, 1953, in Indianapolis; she survives.

He worked for ALCOA for 22 years and then owned Floyd’s Barber Shop in West Lafayette. He was a real estate investor for 40 years and owned apartments near Purdue University.

Mr. Fairfield was a volunteer fireman in Thorntown. He was president of the Thorntown Town Board. He had a great love for Thorntown, his hometown, and enjoyed doing projects for the town.

His hobbies included spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife; daughters, Carolyn (David) Broach of St. Louis, Mo., Lynette (Doug) Dickerson of Lebanon and Sharon (Bruce) Walters of West Lafayette; son, Bryan (Gina) Fairfield of Lafayette; grandchildren, Jeremy, Bradley, Dustin, Lindsey, Jennifer, Janelle, Brent, Blake and Brody; great-grandchildren, Breanna, Alaina, Cody, Jeani, Tara and Kyndal; sisters, Beverly (Sam) Ramsey of Brownsburg and Jane (Jim) Ottinger of Monticello; and brothers, Lester (Phyllis) Fairfield and Howard Fairfield, both of Miami, Fla.

Visitation is 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 23, at the Thorntown United Methodist Church, 201 N. Market St., Thorntown. Services will be 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 24, at the church, with the Rev. Jeremy Broach (Mr. Fairfield’s grandson) officiating. Burial will take place in Maple Lawn Cemetery, Thorntown.
