Mr. Harold E. Reeves, 87, of Thorntown, died Sunday, June 30, 2013, at his residence.

Mr. Reeves was born May 10, 1926, in Lebanon, to the now late Earl and Mabel (Oyler) Reeves. He was married to Margery (Galvin) Reeves for 63 years.

Harold served in the Army during World War II. He was a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service for 35 years. He loved farming, gardening, woodworking and helping people. He enjoyed making elephant ears for the Kiwanis Club. He was also the sexton for Maple Lawn Cemetery. He was a lifelong member of Thorntown United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Margery; and children, Leroy Reeves of Thorntown, Jane (Phil) Emens of Frankfort, Joan (Byron) Horine of Tuttle, Okla., Nancy (Jay) Gyger of Lebanon and Wayne “Lonzo” Reeves of Thorntown; grandchildren, Chastity Jones, Anita (Greg) Lowery, Rachelle Emens, Jason (Angela) Horine, Doug Horine, Justin and Jake Gyger, Jenny Gyger and Matt Werskey, and Shannon (John) Riegle; great-grandchildren, Cayden Jones, Rebecca and Reanna Lowery, Aliya Horine, Maddison Gyger, McKenna, Olivia and McKinnley Riegle; sister-in-law, Virginia Reeves of Melbourne, Fla.; and many nieces, nephews and “Rudy the dog.”

He was preceded in death by a brother, John Reeves.

Family and friends will gather from 6 to 8 p.m. today, July 2, for visitation at Strawmyer & Drury Mortuary, 2400 N. Lebanon St., Lebanon, and Wednesday, July 3, from 10 a.m. until time of services at 11:30 a.m. at Thorntown United Methodist Church, 201 N. Market St. Thorntown, IN 46071, with pastors Jason Horine and Karen Ottjes officiating. Mr. Reeves will be laid to rest at Maple Lawn Cemetery in Thorntown.
