Lebanon — Mr. Wilbur Eugene Bowen, 87, died Thursday, Dec. 15, 2011 at Hickory Creek of Lebanon, Lebanon
Mr. Wilbur E. Bowen was born in Boone County on Jan. 19, 1924, the son of the late Floyd and Anna (Arndt) Bowen.
He was married in Colfax on Oct. 6, 1945, to Martha Lurena (Higer) Bowen. Martha passed away on Feb. 7, 2007.
He was reared and educated in Thorntown and graduated from Thorntown High School where he was a star basketball player. The Bowens resided for many years in Thorntown and moved to make their home in Lebanon in 2005. Wilbur worked in the lumber business for 43 years, retiring in 1983 from the Lumber Center in Lebanon. He also mowed the lawn at the Maple Lawn Cemetery in Thorntown for many years.
Wilbur was an avid IU basketball fan and also enjoyed watching the St. Louis Cardinals. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. His kind and sweet spirit will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Survivors: Three children, Mr. Eddie Bowen and wife, Teresa, Thorntown, Dr. Mike Bowen and wife, Carol, Wilson, N.C., and Mrs. Tammy Fletcher and husband, Art, Thorntown; grandchildren, Ms. Stacey Wilcox, Indianapolis, Ms. Heather Bowen, Thorntown, Mr. Travis Bowen, Travis A.F.B.,, Calif., Mrs. Amanda Kuhn and husband, Todd, Midlothian, Va., Mr. Christopher Bowen, Evanston, Ill., Mrs. Lindsay Jenkins and husband, Tom, Indianapolis, Ms. Hannah Fletcher, Thorntown; and great-grandchildren Carson Kuhn, Midlothian, Va., Charlotte Kuhn, Midlothian, Va., and Meredith Lurena Jenkins, Indianapolis. Three brothers, Archie Bowen, Leonard Bowen and Harry Bowen, and a sister, are deceased.
Visitation will be held at Myers Mortuary in Lebanon from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 19, 2011, at Myers Mortuary, 1502 N. Lebanon St., Lebanon. Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2011 at the mortuary, Pastor Mike Parks officiating.
Interment will follow at Maple Lawn Cemetery in Thorntown, Indiana.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the donor’s local humane society or animal shelter.
