Jean Dale (Caldwell) - Class Of 1941

Martha Jean (Dale) Caldwell

Mrs. Martha “Jean” (Dale) Caldwell, 95, passed away Saturday morning, August 11, 2018, at Homewood Health Campus in Lebanon. She was born in Thorntown, Indiana on April 30, 1923 a daughter of the late Paul Dale and Nolene (McDonald) Dale. 

Raised and educated in Boone County, she graduated from Thorntown High School in 1941 and graduated from Methodist School of Nursing in 1944. As a nurse, she worked for Dr. Ballard and Dr. Kern. 

She married William T. “Bill” Caldwell on April 26, 1944 in Noblesville, Indiana. He preceded her in death on September 29, 1976.

Jean was elected Boone County Clerk in 1978. She served one term but continued to work in the clerk’s office until March 2017, one month before her 94th birthday. She loved working on voter registration, the court house and all the people she worked with. 

Her memberships included Epsilon Sigma Alpha, Zonta and the Boone County Republican Women. 

Jean was an avid reader and bowler. She collected cookbooks, loved to watch sports, especially golf and tennis. Jean also enjoyed time with family on a houseboat on Dale Hollow Lake. The only thing Jean loved more than working was her family.

In addition to her parents and husband, Jean was preceded in death by her sister, Marybelle Emmett; sisters-in-law, Rosemary Moore, Joan Caldwell; brothers-in-law, Robert Harrison, JC Emmett, Robert Caldwell. 

Funeral Services are planned for 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 15, 2018, at Myers Mortuary, 1502 North Lebanon Street, in Lebanon, Indiana, with Rev. Patricia Case officiating. 

Visitation will be held Tuesday, August 14, 2018, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home in Lebanon. Interment will follow services at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lebanon, Indiana
