Hillis Crum - Class Of 1936

Hillis E. Crum of Thorntown died Nov. 5, 2013. Born in Thorntown, July 6, 1915, he attended and graduated from Thorntown High School. He was raised on a farm on Sugar Creek where he spent much of his time fishing, swimming and trapping. He attended Barber College before going into the U.S. Army June 1941. He served overseas in the South Pacific for more than 42 months, returning home August 1945

He married Helene Beck Jan. 2, 1946. He worked for Midwest Tree Experts, then Rock Island Refinery where he retired after 32 years. He became a member of Augusta Christian Church in 1946 and transferred to Chapel Rock Christian Church in 1981. He was a hard-working, proud man who never missed a day of work. He was extremely devoted to and loved by his family. He is survived by his wife, Helene, daughter, Sandra Carroll, grandson, Josh Blickensderfer, two great-grandchildren, Samantha and Tony, and six of his 10 brothers and sisters

Visitation will be 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Flanner and Buchanan – Zionsville, 105 W. Pine St., Zionsville. Services will be 11 a.m. Monday.
