Leah Mae Bush (Williams) - Class Of 1947

Leah Mae Williams, 77 of Thorntown, died Friday, July 7, 2006, at her home.

Born near the Boone/Montgomery County line on March 4, 1929, she was the daughter of Marion Bush and May Hutchens. She married Elton K. Williams in Thorntown on Sept. 14, 1947; he died April 3, 1999.

She graduated from Thorntown High School in 1947, and helped her husband on their farm until retiring in 1992. She also owned T&L Upholstery Shop in Thorntown with her daughter from 1984 to 2003.

She was an active member of Sugar Plain Friends Church, serving as treasurer, Sunday school teacher, committee member of the kitchen and a member of the United Society of Friends Women. She was involved in Farm Bureau where she was a director and took agricultural education into elementary schools. She was a 56-year member of the Sugarettes Home Extension Club and held several offices; was president of the Boone County Home Ec Club.

Survivors are children and spouses Teresa and Jim Carter and Sandy and Jim Smith of Thorntown, Joyce and Mike Hysong of Jamestown and Jeffrey and Debbie Williams of Lafayette; grandchildren Michelle Michalke, Sasha Williamson and Keith Smith, all of Thorntown, Aaron Smith of Kettering, Ohio, Branden and Brittney Williams of Lafayette and Kyle and Clayton Hysong of Jamestown; 11 great-grandchildren; and siblings Lois Thurston of Columbus, Marilyn Houser of New Ross and Cecil Bush of Greenfield. A brother, Sam Bush, is deceased.

Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Russell & Hitch Funeral Home, 116 W. Plum, Thorntown. Services are set for 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Sugar Plain Friends Church, 8980 W. SR 47, Throrntown, Pastor Larry Truitt officiating. Interment will be in Sugar Plain Cemetery.
