Mildred F. (Bates) Hawkins

Mildred F. (Bates) Hawkins, 86, passed away on September 10, 2016, at Lakeview Manor in Indianapolis, after a lengthy battle with Parkinsons Disease.

Mildred was born in Talbot, Indiana, on April 10, 1930, to Denver D. and Redie Ann Graves. In 1948, she married Glenmore Luther (Joe) Bates, and he passed away in 1966. She married Kiefer Hawkins in 1969, and he passed away in 1996.

Mildred is survived by three children, Karen Hunter of Shelbyville, IN, Jerry Bates of Clemmons, NC, and David Bates of Speedway, IN. She was the proud grandmother of Ryan Bramblett, Brett Bramblett, Jamie Turner, Jessica Jones, Adam Bates, Cory Bates, and Cody Bates. She is also survived by seven great-grandchildren.

Mildred was a graduate of Thorntown High School. She was employed for several years at the Thorntown Textile Co. and held several other jobs before retiring to Lake Okeechobee, Florida, in 1983, when they enjoyed several years of traveling. She returned to Indiana after the loss of her husband in 1996, residing in Lebanon. For the last ten years she has been a resident in Lakeview Manor. 

Mildred enjoyed watching sports, especially the Pacers, Colts, baseball and golf. Before and during her stay at Lakeview Manor, she was always eager to play bingo and other board games. 
Mildred was preceded in death by one sister and four brothers.

Visitation will be at Myers and Hunt Mortuary in Thorntown on Wednesday, September 14, from 9:00 - 11:00 a.m., with the funeral immediately following at 11:00 a.m. Interment will take place at Maple Lawn Cemetery in Thorntown.
