Martha Jane (McKinsey) Ottinger 1924-2015

Mrs. Martha Jane Ottinger, 90, of Thorntown, passed away Friday, July 3, 2015, at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis. She was born in Lebanon on Sept. 28, 1924, the daughter of the now late William and Grace (Lang) McKinsey.

Martha was a 1942 graduate of Lebanon High School.

On June 25, 1948, she was married to Donald Marion Ottinger in Thorntown. Mr. Ottinger passed away on Aug. 20, 2008.

Martha worked as an office administrator for several different companies. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church and most recently attended the Methodist Church, both in Thorntown. She was a longtime supporter of the Thorntown Little League and WEBO athletics. She volunteered at the Sugar Creek Art Center as a greeter, and was an auxiliary member of the American Legion Post 218 in Thorntown, as well as a member of the Thorntown Alumni Association.

A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and homemaker, she loved her family dearly. She enjoyed playing bridge, sewing, needlepoint and crafts. Proud of the crafts she made, she always had an entry in the county fair.

Survivors include three sons, Bill (Patte) Ottinger of Brownsburg, Jon (Kelly) Ottinger of Middlebury and Don (Renee) Ottinger of Palm Harbor, Fla.; four grandchildren, Phillip (Kristin) Ottinger, Abby Jo (Aaron) Judson, Casey Ottinger and Charlie Ottinger; and one great-grandchild, Logan Judson.

Martha was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and a brother, J.W. McKinsey.

Visitation is 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 8, at Myers & Hunt Mortuary, 116 W. Plum St., Thorntown. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the mortuary in Thorntown, with the Rev. Karen Ottjes officiating. Interment will follow services at Maple Lawn Cemetery in Thorntown.
