Graveside funeral services for Mrs. Peggy Ann Urban Skains, age 68, will be held at 10 AM Friday, May 22 at Sardis Baptist Church Cemetery, Farmerville, LA, with Bro. Tim Post officiating.


Mrs. Skains, a resident of Bastrop, LA, passed away peacefully May 16, 2020 at LeGrand Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center. She was born November 22, 1951 in Lebanon, Indiana to Rilus and Dorothy Urban. She moved to Bastrop in 1983 and later married her late husband Rickey Skains July 1, 1986.


Mrs. Skains graduated from Thorntown High School, Class of 1970, in Indiana and the University of Monticello as a registered nurse in 1993. She worked as a registered nurse at Morehouse General Hospital and Premier Hospice. Peggy loved to love on people and had a passion for nursing, especially in the area of cancer. She oversaw the oncology clinic for Morehouse General Hospital for many years. During that time, her hands touched many peoples' lives. She worked with children at Camp Quality Louisiana for over ten years as a volunteer nurse. She was involved with the Bastrop Relay for Life and was a member of Faith Baptist Church of Bastrop. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and her great-grandson. Her life was a living example of Ephesians 4:32 "And be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving one another, just as God also forgave you in Christ."


She is preceded in death by her husband Rickey Skains; parents, Rilus and Dorothy Urban; brother, George Urban; sisters, Norma Jean Urban Lee and Linda Urban.


Peggy is survived by her son, Chad Fisher and wife Shelley of Bastrop, LA; granddaughters, Madison Brown and husband Phillip of Bastrop, LA, Zoey Fisher of Bastrop, LA and great grandson, Chadrick Brown of Bastrop, LA; brothers, Jim Urban and wife Nadine of Lebanon, IN, Bob Urban and wife Betty of Lebanon, IN; sisters, Lorraine Perkins and husband Roscoe of Lebanon, IN, Donna Fischer of Mesa, AZ; sister-in-law, Irene Urban of Lebanon, IN; and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins. All of these she loved and touched deeply.


Serving as pallbearers will be Daniel Watt, Steven Lengefeld, Chris Christmas, Steve Barnhill, Phillip Brown and Charles Spencer. Honorary pallbearers will be Larry Lee, Terry Lee, Chris Lee, Daniel Lee and Mike Spencer.
