— Dennis Ray Highland, 60, of Hawthorne, Fla., formerly of Lebanon, died Friday, Oct. 12, 2012, at his residence.

Dennis was born in Lebanon, on Feb. 25, 1952. He was the son of Eugene “Gene” and Mary E. (Shaw) Highland. Reared and educated in Boone County, he graduated from Thorntown High School in 1970.

He married Donna Skyes in 1970; they later divorced. He then married Barbara Strode, and they divorced.

Following high school, Dennis worked at H & H Automotive Supply in Lebanon with his family. He worked for B & C Motors in Cicero and Gas America in Arcadia. He moved to Florida in the early 2000s, and had been a resident there since. While in Florida he was employed at Pearson Auto Parts and Florida Septic, Inc., both in Hawthorne.

A devoted father, brother and son, Dennis enjoyed the family’s many activities together. He enjoyed all kinds of sporting events and playing cards.

Survivors include his parents, Gene and Mary Highland of Lebanon; brothers, Samuel Highland of Crawfordsville, Richard Highland of Kirklin and Joseph (Cindy) Highland of Rockville (Raccoon Lake); sisters, Laura (friend, James Dale) Maile of West Palm Beach, Fla., and Debra (Don) Kasper of Aiken, S.C.; and longtime friend, Sue Claycomb of Fishers.

Dennis was preceded in death by a daughter, Sheila Marie Highland.

Visitation is 1 to 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 5, at Myers Mortuary, 1502 N. Lebanon St., Lebanon. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 5, at Myers Chapel of Memories. Burial of ashes will follow at a later date at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lebanon.
