Alice Caldwell (Brimberry) - Class Of 1959

Mrs. Alice C. Brimberry, 66, of Spring, Texas, died Friday, Nov. 21, 2008, at Kindred Hospital in Denver, Colo.

Mrs. Brimberry was born Dec. 5, 1941, in Greensburg, to Harold J. Caldwell and Claire Alice (Fisher) Caldwell. She married John Brimberry on June 22, 1963, in Thorntown. They were married for forty-four years and resided in Indianapolis and Houston, Texas.

Mrs. Brimberry received her bachelor’s degree from Ball State University, a master’s degree from Butler University and a mid-management degree from Stephen F. Austin University. She was a career educator, beginning as an elementary school teacher in Indiana in 1963, then moving to Texas in 1983. She was the Principal of Link Elementary in 1990 and of Heritage Elementary in 1999 in Spring, before she retired in 2006. Mrs. Brimberry was the recipient of numerous awards, including The Presidential Award, Principal of the Year (twice), Reading Recovery Award and Reading Literacy Advocate Award. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and teacher. Her favorite pastimes included reading, golf and traveling to spend time with her husband, children and five grandchildren. She was known for her personal strength, leadership, the ability to motivate people and her constant care and guidance of others.

She is survived by her son, John L. Brimberry Jr. and wife Erika of Denver; daughter, Claire Riley and husband Darrin of Keller, Texas; five grandchildren, Josie, Callie and Brilee Brimberry, and Hayden and Nolan Riley; sisters, Phyllis Matravers of Lebanon, and Elizabeth Hall and husband Michael of Spring; brothers, Tom Caldwell of Frisco, Colo., and Joel Caldwell and wife Dixie of Indianapolis; sisters-in-law, Mary Ann Miles and husband Anthony Miles of Boggstown, and Lorrie Brimberry, of Apple Valley, Calif. Mrs. Brimberry was preceded in death by her husband, John L. Brimberry, earlier this year.

Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Myers Mortuary, 1502 N. Lebanon St., Lebanon. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Myers Chapel of Memories, with the Rev. David Patrick officiating. Interment will be at the Willhite Cemetery in Wingate. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association, 115 W.
