Dick Richey - Class Of 1956

Richard DEAN RICHEY

APRIL 13, 1938 – NOVEMBER 1, 2019

On Friday November 1, 2019, Richard (Dick) Richey passed away at the age of 81. He was born on April 19,1938, to Mary and Claude Richey in Thorntown, Indiana. He graduated from Thorntown High School in Indiana and received a Bachelor’s degree from Ball State University and a Master’s degree in mathematics education from Purdue University.

Dick taught math in Lafayette, Indiana, Europe and Warren township, Gurnee, Illinois for almost 40 years. His great talent for making friends and “keeping in touch” was an admirable characteristic. His friends included students, teaching colleagues and cribbage buddies. He had a passion for teaching not only high school students but also the less fortunate. He loved searching for antiques in shops throughout Europe and the United States. Another passion was rescuing stray cats that (lucky for them) happened upon his deck. These included his beloved Bella who stayed with him until his passing.

Dick is survived by two brothers; Earl Stanley (Willy) and Walter (Paula). He is also survived by nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews who he loved dearly and who loved “Uncle” Dick. A special thank you to his friend Victor for his love and caring and to Liz and her helpers who gave him special care in his time of need.

A celebration of Dick’s life will be held at a later date.

Memorials are preferred to organizations of the donor’s choice.
