Richard Wait - Class Of 1952

Mr. Richard Eugene Wait, 85, of Lebanon, passed away June 4, 2019, at Homewood Health Campus in Lebanon.

Richard was born May 11, 1934, in Thorntown, a son of the late Donald and Marjorie (Woody) Wait. He married Jeanne (Oliver) Wait on May 16, 1980 at Roberts Park United Methodist Church in Indianapolis. She survives.

Richard graduated from Thorntown High School in 1952. He worked for the United States Postal Service for many years and served as the Post Master in Whitestown from 1982 until 1991. He was also President of the National Association of Federal Employees.

Richard was a 50-year member of the Lion’s Club, a member of the Thorntown Masonic Lodge, where he was Past Master, a member of the Shrine, the Scottish Rite, and Boone County Senior Services. Richard was a sports enthusiast and a loyal, lifelong St. Louis Cardinals fan. He was also active in the Roberts Park United Methodist Church in Indianapolis and the Centenary United Methodist Church in Lebanon.

Survivors include his wife, Jeanne Wait of Lebanon; step-sons, David (Chris) Kish and Michael Kish, both of Florida; brother, Gordon Wait of Lebanon; sister-in-law, Phyllis Wait of Lafayette; and several nieces and nephews in Lafayette and Wisconsin. In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his brother, Keith Wait; and sister, Janice Bolinger.

Family and friends will gather Tuesday, June 11, 2019, for visitation from 12 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 2 p.m. with Rev. Marilyn Couger officiating in the Strawmyer & Drury Mortuary, 2400 N. Lebanon Street, Lebanon. Richard will be laid to rest at Maple Lawn Cemetery in Thorntown.
