Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 28, 2009, at Myers Chapel of Memories, 1502 North Lebanon Street, in Lebanon, Indiana.

 

Visitation is planned for Friday, November 27, 2009 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Myers Mortuary in Lebanon.

Interment will follow military rites at Maple Lawn Cemetery in Thorntown, Indiana.

The Rosary will be held on Friday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. at Myers Mortuary.

Date of death:  Monday, November 23, 2009, at 6:12 p.m.

Place of death:  in Boone County, Indiana

Mr. Davis was born in Thorntown, Indiana on March 15, 1932.  He was the son of the late Barton Benson and Ruth (Clouser) Davis.

Mr. Davis was married to Sylvia Lorraine (Sauter) Davis in Fayetteville, North Carolina at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church on December 31, 1955.

With the exception of the time he spent in the United States Air Force, Mr. Davis was a Boone County resident.  He was a 1950 graduate of Thorntown High School.

He was a highly decorated reconnaissance pilot having spent a career in the Air Force during the period December 5, 1950, to retirement on January 1, 1971.  He received numerous citations and decorations for his missions in Viet Nam.  He returned to Boone County where he was a postal worker in Lebanon.

A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, he enjoyed his family and their activities.  He liked the out-of-doors and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and flying.  In addition, he liked to garden, read and followed politics.  He was an avid sports fan and followed the Indiana University basketball team and the Notre Dame Football program.

Deceased:  Three brothers, Richard A. Davis, Truman E. Davis, and John B. Davis, are deceased.

Memorials:  In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials may be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Frankfort or to the Active Duty Veterans Support Group of the donor’s choice.
