Earl Eugene “Gene” Holladay

Mr. Earl Eugene “Gene” Holladay, 93, of Darlington, died Monday, July 18, 2011, at his residence.

Mr. Holladay was born Aug. 21, 1917, in Clarks Hill, to Frank A. and Minnie Mable (Hollinger) Holladay. He graduated from Thorntown High School in 1939.

He worked for Winkler for 12 years, then worked for Chrysler in Indianapolis for 16 years, retiring in 1979. He then worked for the Lebanon IGA for 10 years.

Mr. Holladay enjoyed visiting with people.

Survivors include his sister, Naomi Montoya of Arizona; sister-in-law, Marjorie (Cecil) Williams Holladay of Thorntown; and nieces who cared for him, Sara (Don) Kelly of Darlington and Cecilia Ann Essex of Lebanon. He had 38 nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by brothers and sisters, Roy Everett Holladay, Estella Endicott, Harley William Holladay, Viola Fairfield, Sylvia Cain, Cecil Thornton Holladay, George Wilson Holladay and Bobby Levon Holladay.

Visitation is 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, July 22, at Russell & Hitch Funeral Home, 223 N. Meridian St., Lebanon. Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Maple Lawn Cemetery in Thorntown.
