Larry Graves - Class Of 1965

Mr. Larry Lee Graves, 75, of Thorntown, Indiana passed away on Tuesday, January 18, 2022, at Homewood Health Campus in Lebanon. He was born on October 18, 1946, a son of the late Ernest Lee and Frances Almeda (McLaughlin) Graves.

On November 29, 1986, he was married to Carol Jean (Gradwell) Ireland Graves; she survives and they shared 35 years together. He was previously married and divorced from Anita (Smith) Jarman.

A lifelong resident of Thorntown, he was a 1965 graduate of Thorntown High School. In 1966, Larry enlisted in the Indiana National Guard and served honorably for twenty years, retiring in 1986 with rank of 1st Sergeant.

He worked in construction for Foust Construction, George Lowe and Ron Smith. Larry was also a fleet truck driver for Schneider Transport out of Green Bay, Wisconsin and for Aero Drapery of Westfield, retiring in 2009 after 23 of dedicated years.

Larry was a proud member of the American Legion in Lebanon and Thorntown. He also served in the Thorntown Honor Guard in his younger days. Larry enjoyed hunting, especially rabbit hunting, fishing, tinkering in his garage, watching old westerns and NASCAR. He loved going to his grandson’s sporting events and was devoted to his family. He will be greatly missed.

Survivors include his loving wife, Carol “Jeanie” Graves of Thorntown; daughter, Heather L. (Chris) Wiley of Thorntown; stepchildren, John H. (Candace) Ireland of Culpepper, VA, Robyn D. (Denise) Ireland of Tipton; grandchildren, Breanna Wiley, Cole Wiley of Thorntown; step grandchildren, Josh Ireland, Kegan (Leah) Ireland, Whitney (Mark) Edischum, Chloe Ireland, Cole Ireland, Jana Ireland, Julia Ireland; step great grandchildren, Kehlan Ireland, London and Rainey Eidschum; brothers, Terry E. (Tammy) Graves of Lebanon, John D. (Patricia) Graves of Thorntown; several nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.

In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by a brother, Ernest “Steve” Graves; niece, Melissa Graves Woods; nephews, Jay D. Graves and Rick Deakins.

Funeral Services will be held at Myers and Hunt Mortuary, 116 West Plum Street, in Thorntown, Indiana, on Monday, January 24, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. with Larry Truitt officiating.

Visitation is planned from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Monday at the funeral home in Thorntown.

Interment with military rites will follow services at Maple Lawn Cemetery in Thorntown, Indiana
