KEITH KENDALL

I attended Earlham College, Richmond, Ind. and received my B.A. in 1957. I served my country by doing Alternative Service at Friendsville Academy, Friendsville, Tenn. from 1953 to 1955. Judy and I were married June 11, 1955 at Friendsville Friends Church.
I was pastor of the Farmers Institute Friends Church south of Lafayette from 1956 to 1961, and we were the Directors of the Friends Student Center at Purdue from its founding in 1957 to 1961.
I was a missionary pastor of 6 Friends Churches in Jamaica 1961-1965. I attended the Earlham School of Religion, Richmond, Ind. while on study leave, 1965-1966. I was again a missionary pastor of 3 Friends Churches in Jamaica 1966-1967, then moved to Kingston, Jamaica, and was the Executive Secretary of Jamaica Yearly Meeting of Friends, and Accountant for their Trustees from 1967 to 1970.
I was pastor of Leesburg (Ohio) Friends Church 1970-1976; of Winchester (Indiana) Friends Church 1976-1985; and of Carmel Friends Church 1985-1989.
Judy and I were Administrator/Manager of the Raintree Square Retirement Apartment facility in New Castle, Ind. 1989 until our retirement in 1998. During that time I was simultaneously also Administrator of 2 other retirement apartment facilities, Sanders Glen in Westfield and The Home Place near West Newton.
Since, I have had several part-time jobs, namely as Customer Relations person for Officesource in New Castle; Interim Pastor of New Castle Friends Church; Interim Pastor of Richmond First Friends Church; Interim Pastor of West River Friends Church (near Hagerstown, Ind.); and I continue as an On-Call person for several Edward Jones Investment offices in East Central Indiana and Western Ohio.
I have been deeply involved with the Kiwanis International organization in Indiana. I have been a Distinguished Secretary and Distinguished President of the New Castle Kiwanis Club. I was a Distinguished Lt. Governor of the Indiana Rose Division of Kiwanis. I have served many years on the Kiwanis Indiana Foundation, being President a couple of years. I have been a Kiwanis International Certified Instructor and a New Club Organizer. I have been honored as the Kiwanian of the Year by a local Kiwanis Club and by the Indiana District of Kiwanis. I served 2 years as the District Chair for Human and Spiritual Values.
Judy and I are enjoying living at Friends Fellowship Community, a retirement facility here in Richmond. We lived in an Independent Housing condo for over 10 years and now are in an apartment in the Main Buiilding. I preach about once a month for the worship service held here at Friends Fellowship Community.

I remember the 'hazing' that the upper classmen did on the freshmen boys. Usually it included going over to a nearby horse stable and walking the boys barefoot through the manure, etc. But as upper classmen, we decided to change this a bit, and mixed cold cream with green food coloring and painted the faces of the freshmen boys. When they got hot, the cold cream began to run a bit down their faces. Principal Obert Piety called us into his office to find out what that stuff was. We thought we had had it!! But once he found it was only cold cream colored with green, he said it was OK.
When I was a junior, Cliff Woody was a senior and in the same Civics Class. He bought a pocket watch and proceeded to wind it every day in class. It had the loudest sound when being wound.
There was a very tall boy in school, and Mr. Piety (being basketball coach as well as principal) spent a lot of time with him in the gym trying to make him into a good basketball player. I think his name was Bill York. But the boy was never too well coordinated for playing basketball, as I remember.
